Study Shows Impact Afterschool Has on Reading

Recently, the Kansas Reading Roadmap (KRR) released a study of 9,000 children across 58 schools in Kansas that shows the impact that afterschool can have on early reading. Through a partnership with the Kansas Multi-Tiered System of Supports and Alignment (MTSS), the statistical analysis of individual student data found a strong correlation between afterschool intervention and grade-level reading based on school tests. For every day a child attended afterschool, his or her chances of reading at benchmark increased by 1.7%.

Large Crowd Enjoys WMS/WHS Band Concert Tuesday!

The Knight and Crusader Concert Bands performed Tuesday evening at WHS, before a large crowd on parents and friends. Both bands, under the direction of Mr. David Brody, performed a variety of numbers.

WHS Service Day - Giving Back to the Community!

It was the annual SERVICE DAY today at WHS - all of the students either worked around the school or at various locations throughout the city - cleaning, organizing, sorting, painting, etc. etc...

Locations were all around, including Memorial Auditorium, Woods Park, Hibbs-Hooten Stadium, Wellington Health & Rehab, Thrift Shop, Golf Course, Arrowhead Animal Clinic, Sumner Community Hospital, Wheat Capital Manor and other locations as well.

Top State Honors for WHS Freshman Jael Catlett!

The Kansas Business Hall of Fame held an Essay Contest recently, receiving 92 entries from 10 Kansas high schools, almost double from last year's entries. A representative from KBHF paid a surprise visit Wednesday to Mrs. Elizabeth Vaughn's class where Freshman Jael Catlett was presented with a certificate for being 1 of the top 3 winners in the State! Jael, along with Jordin MacKenzie, a freshman at Blue Valley North, and Melvin Le, a sophomore from Liberal, took the top spots in the contest!

Noon Lions Club Presents Jr Lions Awards @ WHS!

The NOON LIONS CLUB held their annual JR LIONS AWARD ceremony at WHS on Tuesday - 12 exceptional "JUNIORS", 6 boys and 6 girls were selected for this honor, an honor based on good character, citizenship, and community. Congratulations to the following WHS Class of 2020 awardees!

CTE - America's Future Workforce / Showcase @ WHS April 24th!

Wednesday, April 24th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, everyone is invited to the Ninth Annual Career and Technical Education Showcase at Wellington High School. It's an after-school event to view the work of students in CTE classes.

USD 353 NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The USD 353 Board of Education has announced the selection of Adam Hatfield as the new superintendent. Hatfield will begin his new leadership role with USD 353 Wellington on July 1, 2019, after the retirement of current superintendent, Dr. Mark Whitener, at the end of the 2018-19 school year.
